Our Story

Who are we?

We are a small independent business from Oxford that previously had been running the St Giles’ Café. We are a small team with a huge desire to create an outstanding experience for our customers. Food with real taste, drinks with style and substance and a level of service to match the very best.

What are we going to do?

We want to create a pub of old that offers its visitors a really warm welcome whether you’re dropping in for a beer, glass of wine, lunch, dinner or a quick bite to eat. A pub with great food and atmosphere, not a restaurant that serves drinks. And all with a few contemporary twists.

The White Hart at Wytham is , we believe, a pub in a really exceptional setting and just a very short journey from Oxford. An 17th century inn, steeped in history, located in beautiful village, surrounded by beautiful countryside and not least close to the magnificent Wytham Woods.

  1. My 3rd Great Uncle – William Burden was landlord of the White Hart from 1865, after Mr Lipscomb, until his untimely death in 1868, following a road accident in Wytham. William was previously coachman to the Earl of Abingdon. William’s wife, Sarah, took on the role at least until 1891. She died in 1895. I was wondering if you could tell me when Sarah ceased to be landlord and who followed her.

    • Dear Graham , thank you this – how fascinating! Regrettably, I have scant history or records of previous landlords of this ancient pub, but I will now undertake to find out more from local sources. Kind regards, Baz
